How to prepare your workspace for Christmas decorations

28 November 2024  |  Admin

As we reach the end of November the most wonderful time of the year is just around the corner! If you haven't already you may want to consider putting up Christmas decorations in your workplace to spread a little festive cheer amongst staff and visiting clients/customers. Whether you’re setting up at home, in the office, or in a shared workspace, a little bit of cleaning preparation can go a long way in ensuring that your decorating experience is smooth, efficient, and enjoyable. Check out our top tips for cleaning and preparing your space below.

1. Declutter

Remove any seasonal items that may still be sitting around from the Summer or Halloween. Having a blank canvas to work with will put you off to a great start. Not to mention it's a great excuse to get rid of all those papers sitting on your desk that you no longer need.

2. Dust and clean all surfaces

This includes paying extra attention to those unseen and hard to reach areas that often get overlooked. The tops of door frames, skirting boards, behind and under furniture are all areas that we often neglect when it comes to cleaning so ensure they receive a bit of love as we head into the festive period. Use a microfiber cloth for the best results, as it traps dust and dirt without spreading it around.

3. Clean windows and mirrors

This is especially important if you are planning on applying any festive window stickers or spray snow to windows. A clean surface will allow for better adhesion. Clean, sparkling windows will also allow for more natural light to enter which can brighten up the room, especially important at this time of year as the evenings draw in so early. Use a glass cleaner and a clean microfibre cloth for a streak free finish.

4. Use a seasonal air freshener

Consider using a seasonal scented room spray, reed diffuser or scented plug in. Pine, cinnamon, and vanilla are all perfect scents to help create a cosy Christmas vibe. A fresh-smelling environment will not only help you feel more festive but also keep your workspace feeling clean and pleasant for the whole festive period.

5. Sanitize high touch areas

No body wants to catch the flu for Christmas. High touch areas such as bannisters, door handles and light switches are breeding grounds for germs and bacteria at this time of year. Wipe them down frequently using a reusable cloth and disinfectant to keep germs at bay and everyone feeling fit and happy for Christmas.

Finally, once your workspace is cleaned and decorated, set aside a few minutes each day or week to maintain cleanliness. Doing small, regular tidying sessions will help you keep the workspace festive, organized, and clean throughout December without the stress of a big cleanup later. Happy decorating!
